Zabit Magomedsharipov will fight in 2020 at UFC 249
A Russian UFC Featherweight fighter, Zabit Magomedsharipov, recently made an announcement regarding his next fight in 2020. Zabit talked about it in his interview for the Russian sports newspaper “Sport-Express” on February 11, 2020.
Zabit, currently #3 in the featherweight rankings, confirmed that he will fight at UFC 249 in Brooklyn on the same card as Khabib vs Ferguson. Magomedsharipov mentioned that he didn’t sign a contract at this point but he is 100% sure it’s going to be a top 5 opponent.
Zabit hinted that it is definitely not Yair Rodriguez because of his injury and most likely not “The Korean Zombie” which leaves Brian Ortega as a most likely scenario. A winner of their fight at UFC 249, according to Zabit, will face Alex Volkanovski later in 2020 if UFC won’t book a rematch between Volkanovski and Max Holloway.
In his most recent fight, Magomedsharipov defeated Calvin Kattar via unanimous decision on November 9, 2019. Brian Ortega is been inactive since his war with Max Holloway at UFC 231 on December 8, 2018. Ortega suffered a brutal stoppage loss to Holloway via 4th round technical knockout. In that fight, Max landed 290 significants strikes on Ortega which is a UFC single-fight record.
What is your opinion on a potential bout between Brian Ortega and Zabit Magomedsharipov which should take place at UFC 249 on April 18, 2020? Who would you give an edge in this matchup? What if they’ll make it a 5-round fight?
