Khabib's father cancelled US visa

Why Khabib’s father Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov not allowed in the US?

Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov is Khabib Nurmagomedov’s father and also his main coach. Many of you might be wondering why Khabib’s father is never seen by his son’s side in the octagon when he is fighting in the United States.

Well, it’s definitely not because he doesn’t want to see it or be there. The reason is simple – Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov can’t get a US visa and he is not allowed to enter the country to be at Khabib’s fights.

An interesting fact, but Abdulmanap previously had a 3-year American visa and he visited the United States twice in 2015-2016 (he’ve been to Houston, Las Vegas, San Jose, LA). When he was going to fly to the US for the third time, he was denied an entry at the airport. His visa was canceled in February 2017 ahead of Khabib’s scheduled bout with Tony Ferguson for an “undisclosed reason”.

There is no official and confirmed information on why Khabib’s father is no longer allowed in the United States. According to Abdulmanap himself, he thinks it has something to do with him carrying the Russian flag at UFC 208.

After Islam Makhachev’s fight against Nik Lentz, Khabib’s father walked in to the octagon with two Russian flags despite a message from the UFC not to do such a thing. Abdulmanap was also walking around with the Russian flag at weigh-ins as well. At the time, it was a sensitive political topic with Russia’s annexation of Crimea and ongoing military crisis in Ukraine.

Since Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov’s US visa got cancelled in 2017, he was trying to apply for a new one multiple times. He tried to apply again in Russia as well as in US consulates in Poland and Turkey but his visa application was never approved.

Ahead of the UFC 229 bout with Conor McGregor in Las Vegas, “The Eagle” was publicly asking UFC’s boss Dana White and the United States President Donald Trump to help solve his father’s visa issues. That didn’t work either.

What’s interesting is that Khabib himself doesn’t have any problems with getting a visa to the United States. A lot of other guys from their team are also allowed to America including Islam Makhachev, Zubaira Tukhugov, Khabib’s cousins Abubakar, Umar and Usman Nurmagomedov’s.

P.S. At least Abdulmanap was able to support and be with Khabib at UFC 242 in Abu-Dhabi. It was the first time in Khabib’s 12 UFC fights when his father was able to be there. No wonder he is asking to fight next in Russia or elsewhere not in the USA.
