UFC Draftkings Picks: DFS strategy for UFC Fight Night on 5/13/2020

*** Update*** Vettori vs Roberson fight was canceled so make sure to replace them if they are in your lineups. I personally picked Philipe Lins in a lot of my lineups as a replacement for Vettori. Good luck tonight, gentleman.

With the UFC 249 behind us, we can now focus on the upcoming UFC events. In fact, we have two more UFC events this week – UFC Fight Night Smith vs Teixeira on Wednesday and UFC Fight Night Overeem vs Harris on Saturday.

It is great news for those of you that play daily fantasy sports. If you are new to the DFS world, I will appreciate it if you signup for Draftkings via my referral link. When you make a $20 deposit, you will receive an additional $20 as a free play bonus.

Speaking of the UFC 249, my Draftkings lineups did pretty well. I didn’t score a home run but I did make some money by 3X my investments in entries. I was correct with my prediction for Ferguson vs Gaethje fight, I also had Francis Ngannou, Vicente Luque, and Henry Cejudo in most of my lineups.

So what should be your strategy for Draftkings lineups for UFC’s event on Wednesday, May 13th?

First of all, it’s going to be a very unpredictable event. We will see a few fighters that are not very well-known and also there are few fighters that will be fighting not in their usual weight class (Ovince Saint Preux will make his debut as a heavyweight, Ray Borg will fight at bantamweight also for the first time, Gabriel Benitez, a featherweight, will face Omar Morales in a lightweight bout).

Without further ado, here are a few of my favorite MMA Draftkings fantasy plays for UFC Fight Night: Smith vs Teixeira on 05/13/2020.

  • Ike Villanueva ($7,800)

Ike Villanueva will make his UFC debut in a heavyweight bout against Chase Sherman. Despite being a debutant, Villanueva has more MMA experience than Sherman (0-2 in the UFC).

Sherman is a much bigger guy than Villanueva and he has a 5-inch reach advantage on his opponent. According to bookmakers, Sherman is a -155 favorite, Villanueva is an underdog at +125.

I can see that it will be a pretty short fight – one of these heavyweights will get an early KO victory in this brawl. On Draftkings, I like to pick Villanueva at $7,800 as he seems like a hungrier, more skilled, and experienced fighter.

Despite the disadvantage in size, Ike Villanueva has a lot of experience fighting heavyweights and it is not new territory for him. His motivation must be sky-high as it is his only chance to stick in the UFC.

I am looking for 80+ fantasy points on Draftkings from Villanueva as I predict he will KO/TKO Sherman in the 2 round.

  • Michael Johnson ($8,000)

Michael Johnson, a veteran of the UFC’s lightweight division, will be facing Thiago Moises. It’s hard to trust Michael Johnson at this point in his career especially considering his most recent loss to Stevie Ray but I can see Johnson making a strong comeback in this fight.

Michael Johnson is a very skillful technical striker. In the past, he had some very big wins against Tony Ferguson and Dustin Poirier. As long as he avoids Thiago Moises’s takedowns, he will win this fight. I predict Johnson to win via KO/TKO and earn 80+ Draftkings fantasy points.

  • Marvin Vettori ($8,900)

This is a very intriguing matchup between the two talented middleweights Marvin Vettori and Karl Roberson. Both fighters riding a two fight winning streak.

I believe Vettori is a more complete MMA fighter than Roberson which will give him an advantage in this matchup. Also, Roberson missed weight at weigh-ins so it is pretty safe to assume that he might not be in the best physical shape going into this fight.

I’m hoping that Vettori will get a 1st round finish here but even if this fight goes the distance and he wins a decision, he should still bring 80+ fantasy points on Draftkings.

  • Ben Rothwell ($7,500)

Ben Rothwell is my favorite value play under $7500 for MMA Draftkings on Wednesday, May 13.

Rothwell will be fighting Ovince Saint Preux in the heavyweight bout. Ovince Saint Preux, normally a light heavyweight, will have a significant size disadvantage against Rothwell.

I’ve seen Ben Rothwell’s interview prior to this fight where he talked about Saint Preux. He said there that he was preparing to fight a smaller and faster opponent for a while so I expect him to have an effective gameplan against Saint Preux.

If everything goes well, Ben Rothwell has a very good chance to finish Ovince Saint Preux in the first round. The difference in power between the two men will be very, very significant.
