UFC 249 Draftkings Picks: Best DFS Lineup for Saturday, May 9th
The UFC 249 event is just days away and with all major sports in the US being shutdown MMA is going to be one of the most popular choices among Draftkings fantasy players in the near future. In fact, UFC is hosting three events in a span of one week between May 9th and May 16th.
The biggest MMA contest on Draftkings for the upcoming UFC 249 event is the MMA Million tournament with 58,823 entries and a total of $1M in cash prizes. It is a $20 per lineup contest with a chance to win $200k cash money for the first place. I am personally playing a few lineups in the MMA Million as well as a bunch of lineups in the $3 entry MMA $100K Haymaker contest.

Here, I would like to do an overview of the UFC 249 event from the DFS standpoint, look at some of the best picks as well as fighters you should avoid in your UFC 249 Draftkings lineups.
Top 5 UFC 249 DFS picks
- Henry Cejudo ($8,800)
I don’t expect Henry Cejudo to be the highest-owned fighter as a lot of players will be avoiding him or picking his opponent Dominick Cruz as a value play. Cruz, a former champion, will be coming off a 4-year layoff from the fight game and I just don’t believe he can beat Cejudo at this point.
Henry is in his prime and I can see he will remain to be a champion for another year or two. I was betting against Cejudo when he faced Moraes in his last fight and I won’t make the same mistake again.
It is unlikely that Cejudo will get a first or second-round win against Cruz but he should still get close to 100 fantasy points on Draftkings even if this fight goes the 5 round distance.
I am comfortably picking Henry Cejudo in most of my UFC 249 DFS lineups.
- Francis Ngannou ($9,100)
I will be playing Francis Ngannou in 90% of my lineups this Saturday. I assume Ngannou’s ownership will be very high but it’s hard to avoid picking “The Predator” in his fight against Jair Rozenstruik.
There’s a lot of hype around an undefeated Rozenstruik but he is going to face a completely different animal in Francis Ngannou who has more power and mixed martial arts experience. Ngannou is a future champion of the UFC’s heavyweight division.
This will most likely be a short fight. Francis Ngannou is the hardest hitter in the UFC and he needs just one good shot to put Rozenstruik to sleep. I predict a first or second-round knockout win for Ngannou which should result in 90-100 Draftkings fantasy points.
- Justin Gaethje ($7,500)
This is a risky play but in my opinion, one of the best value options on the table. Justin Gaethje’s opponent, Tony Ferguson, is a favorite to win in this fight and he is priced at $8,700 on Draftkings. I can see Tony Ferguson’s ownership will be over 40% so if Justin Gaethje wins this one, it can be an easy way to separate yourself from a lot of competitors.
I am not just randomly picking Gaethje to beat Tony Ferguson in the main event of the evening. I recommend you to take a look at this article where I give my predictions for Ferguson vs Gaethje fight.
Justin Gaethje averages 95.7 FPPF in his 6 fights in the UFC and I can see a lot of upside to this play. Besides simply winning this fight, Gaethje has the potential to score well over 100 points if he gets 100+ significant strikes, knocks down Ferguson, and finishes him in the 3rd or 4th round via KO/TKO.
- Donald Cerrone ($8,000)
In this UFC 249 bout, Donald Cerrone ($8,000) will be facing former UFC lightweight champion Anthony Pettis (priced at $8,200 on DK).
Both fighters are far from being in their prime and they are basically fighting to get a few more paychecks prior to their retirement from MMA. Cerrone is currently on a 3-fight losing streak; Pettis lost his last two fights.
Something important to note here is that Pettis and Cerrone previously fought 7 years ago and Anthony Pettis destroyed Cerrone via first-round knockout. Usually, in rematches, I pick the same fighter that won the first fight but in this one, I can see Cowboy Cerrone beating Pettis via unanimous decision.
It is not the same Antony Pettis that previously beat Cerrone. Cowboy has more motivation than Pettis and fighting on short notice at 170 lbs weight class benefits Cerrone more than it does Pettis.
- Vicente Luque ($9,000)
Vicente Luque will be fighting Niko Price which is also a rematch. In their first outing, Luque dominated Price and won via 2nd round submission. Vicente Luque earned over 100 fantasy points on Draftkings, Niko Price – only 12.5 points.
I expect a dominating performance from Luque in this fight. He is overall a stronger striker than Niko Price and despite his most recent loss to Thompson, I can see Vicente getting a big knockout win in this one. Luque is a real deal with the potential to become the top 5 in the UFC’s welterweight division.
