Tony Ferguson calls out Conor McGregor: “Make UFC Great Again”
Former UFC lightweight interim champion Tony Ferguson on his social media called out the Irishman Conor McGregor.
“El Cucuy” posted a very strange Tony is the type of guy-like video picking on “The Notorious” and calling him “Mcnugget” Conor McGregor. Ferguson also added a slogan “Make UFC Great Again” which looks like a fight offer to the UFC and Conor McGregor.
In one of the previous posts, Ferguson made another remark targeting McGregor saying that at the time when he (Tony) last loss prior to Gaethje fight, “Mcnuggets Was On Welfare”.
Tony Ferguson was most recently defeated by Justin Gaethje at UFC 249. Prior to that, “El Cucuy” was riding a 12 fight winning streak and was undefeated for 8 years. Khabib vs Ferguson fight was originally scheduled to headline UFC 249 on April 18th but their bout was canceled due to the global pandemic. UFC rescheduled UFC 249 event for May 9th and had to replace Khabib Nurmagomedov with Justin Gaethje.
Justin Gaethje became an interim champion and in his next fight will face the undefeated UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov. According to Khabib’s manager, their championship bout will most likely take place at UFC 253 in September 2020.
“El Cucuy” lost his opportunity to fight Khabib Nurmagomedov for the championship belt but it doesn’t change the fact that he is still one of the best lightweights in the world. That’s why a potential bout between McGregor and Ferguson makes a lot of sense while Khabib is taking on Gaethje.
Conor recently announced his retirement from the sport for the third time in four years which we are not buying considering his eagerness to get a rematch with Nurmagomedov. Well, a potential win against Tony Ferguson will most definitely guarantee Conor the second shot at Khabib.
Following his announcement about retirement, “The Notorious” stated that he was looking through opponent options, and there was “nothing that’s exciting” and “nothing happening”. McGregor wanted to fight Gaethje for the interim title but UFC already announced Khabib vs Gaethje for September.
There are just a handful of matchups in the UFC at the moment that sound more exciting than Conor McGregor vs Tony Ferguson fight. It would be a massive fight with well over a million sold pay-per-views especially when you think its importance and what will be at stake.
What is your opinion regarding a potential fight between Conor McGregor and Tony Ferguson? Do you think there is a chance Conor will fight Tony next? Will UFC say “yes” to this fight assuming both fighters will come to an agreement?
