Khabib Nurmagomedov: 155 lbs is my division and I don’t want to move up or go division down
Khabib Nurmagomedov recently talked to the Russian media about switching the division and what he thinks on moving down to Featherweight or up to Welterweight division.
I don’t see myself being able to cut so much weight to make 145 lbs (66 kg) limit. Weight cuts to 155 lbs (70 kg) are already hard for me and they are hard on my body.
Speaking of moving up to Welterweight division… My normal weight is 83 kg (182 lbs). If I were to fight in the Welterweight, I would have to cut to 170 lbs and on the fight day I’ll be about 82 kg (180 lbs).
Middleweights like Tyron Woodley or Kamar Usman during time-off normally weigh 91-92 kg (over 200 lbs). They cut down to 170 lbs limit and on the fight day they gain back to 88-89 kg (194-196 lbs).
If I fight in the Welterweight, I’ll be at least 15 lbs lighter than my opponents and it’s a very big difference. That’s why 155 lb is my division and I would like to end my career fighting in the Lightweight.
