Khabib: “I’m definitely upset more than you to cancel a fight with Tony Ferguson”
Well, guys, this is it.
Khabib vs Ferguson bout is officially canceled for the 5th time. Instead, UFC is going to book Ferguson vs Gaethje fight at UFC 249 on May 9th for the interim lightweight title. A winner of their bout, according to Dana White, will face Nurmagomedov later in 2020.
Khabib Nurmagomedov confirmed the cancellation of his fight with Tony Ferguson at UFC 249 on his Instagram where he wrote:
“I understand everything and I’m definitely upset more than you to cancel the fight, probably like all others, I had many plans after the fight, but I can’t control it all”…
Dana White also announced that Khabib is officially ruled out from UFC 249 on April 5th.
We knew this was a very good possibility that it might happen considering the current situation with the COVID-19.
In fact, with the crisis getting worse and worse in the United States and many European countries including Russia, the UFC could cancel not only Khabib vs Ferguson fight but UFC 249 event as a whole.
Dana White and the UFC tried their very best to make it work. But realistically, organizing an event during such tough times as we are in at the moment is practically impossible. A lot of countries out there have taken drastic measures to fight COVID-19 including travel restrictions and border shutdowns.
It is crazy to even think about it but Khabib vs Ferguson is canceled for the fifth time. At times like that, is when you really starting to believe that their fight is cursed. What are the odds that this time around both fighters are finally healthy and… their fight is affected and being canceled because of the uncertainty with the global pandemic?
And Khabib made this announcement on April Fool’s Day. As a matter of fact, Tony Ferguson got injured and pulled out from a fight with Khabib in 2018 also on April 1st.
So, the question is, what’s next now that Khabib vs Ferguson is off from UFC 249 card on April 18th? Will UFC 249 still take place despite the global pandemic? If yes, who will replace “The Eagle” – Justin Gaethje or Conor McGregor?
We should hear some news from Dana White in the near future. Until then, we’ll keep playing guessing game.
