How Much Money Khabib Will Make on McGregor Fight?
Khabib Nurmagomedov and Conor McGregor are finally going to face each other on October, 6 in Las Vegas at the UFC 229 event. We are all have been waiting for this one for a very long time and now “the wait is over”.
Khabib is an undefeated Lightweight champion, one of the best wrestlers in the UFC; Conor is… Conor. He can beat anyone on any day. He is a dangerous striker and the most popular martial artist in the world. It’s not easy to predict who will win Khabib vs McGregor fight as both fighters are very different and they have their strengths and weaknesses.
Rumors about the fight between Nurmagomedov and McGregor started a while ago as Khabib was crushing everyone in the division on his way. Then there was a bus accident in Brooklyn which almost ruined Conor’s career…
This was coming, both sides wanted this fight as long as the money was right. The question is, how much will Nurmagomedov and McGregor make on this fight?
It’s safe to say that Khabib vs McGregor is going to be the biggest fight in the UFC up to this day. Even on such a short notice and without a lot of promotion (with only one press-conference), this fight will sell. I mean, Conor McGregor can sell any fight but with this one, he doesn’t even have to do much. Khabib is also has a lot of fans all over the world: Russians, supporters in the US and in the Arabic world.
According to the UFC, they are planning to sell record high 2-3 million pay-per-view subscriptions for the upcoming UFC229. Previously, the most selling was UFC202 McGregor vs Diaz – 1.6 million subscriptions.
Let’s take a look at how much Khabib Nurmagomedov was making for the last few fights. He had a $500,000 contract for the fight with Tony Ferguson which never happened (it’s when Khabib pulled out because of the health issues while cutting weight). Recently, he made $530,000 for fighting Al Iaquinta when he won the UFC Lightweight title.
This time, Khabib Nurmagomedov is going to make his biggest paycheck yet for facing Conor McGregor – an exact amount is unknown at this point but it is somewhere around 10 million dollars.
According to Khabib’s manager Ali Abdel-Aziz, Nurmagomedov at the end will make more than 10 million, Conor McGregor – over 15 million. This amount highly depends on a number of sold PPV’s as both sides will get a piece of the pie.
These projected numbers are record-high for the UFC organization. Previously, the most money Conor McGregor made in the UFC is for a Championship bout against Eddie Alvarez in 2016 – $3.59 million and it was a record among MMA fighters.
In comparison, Conor McGregor made about 70 millions for fighting Floyd Mayweather Jr. in the boxing match. What a difference and what a joke Mayweather vs McGregor was at the end.
Let’s hope Khabib and Conor will stay healthy and make weight with no problems so they both can deliver quality and entertaining performance on October 6!
