How much money Khabib is making for the bout with Poirier at UFC 242?

The undefeated UFC Lightweight champion, Khabib Nurmagomedov, is one of the biggest superstars in the promotion and most popular martial artists in the world. On September 7, at the international event UFC 242 in Abu-Dhabi, Nurmagomedov is scheduled to defend his title against an interim champion Dustin Poirier. The question that a lot of fans are wondering is how much money Khabib Nurmagomedov will be making for this title fight.

First of all, it’s important to mention that prior to the fight with Poirier, Khabib signed a new deal with the UFC which made him one of the highest paid fighters in the promotion. Specific details and exact numbers of this agreement were not announced to the public, but according to Nurmagomedov’s manager Rizvan Magomedov, financial terms of this contract are “very fair” and it is “one of the best deals in the history of UFC”.

Speaking of how much will Khabib make for the fight with Poirier at UFC 242, Magomedov said that “The Eagle” is going to make “significantly more than for his most recent bout against Conor McGregor“.

From what we know, Nurmagomedov’s UFC purse for his win over McGregor was $2 million – this is guaranteed money not including dividends from sold Pay-Per-Views (UFC 229 sold a record-high 2.4 million PPV’s). Financial terms with the PPV’s are unknown but Khabib at least doubled the guaranteed purse and approximately made about $5-6 million for the fight with McGregor (according to Ali Abdelaziz, Khabib was supposed to make about $10 million).

Something else worth noting is that UFC 242 being held in the United Arab Emirates, and Khabib is basically a face of this event, a face of the MMA in the Middle East and Muslim world. He is extremely popular there and has a lot of support from fans, sponsors and investors in the region. There is a lot of money and potential in the Middle East and UFC is been unsuccessfully targeting that market for quit some time until now. Khabib Nurmagomedov brings a lot to the table and there is no question he is getting a very nice paycheck for fighting Dustin Poirier in Abu-Dhabi.
